Bria Cheri is the kind of artist who refuses to be boxed in. The Jamaica Queens-born singer, songwriter, dancer, actress, and radio personality has been in love with music since her mother first sat her down at a piano at just three years old. From choir rehearsals in school to commanding the stage as a multi-hyphenate creative, Bria has always known this is where she belongs.

By 2016, her undeniable talent caught the attention of Donnie Klang, the Making the Band 4 winner and hitmaker behind Day 26. Their connection was instant, Donnie became a mentor and collaborator, producing Bria’s first two EPs Before the Music and Silent Siren, Vol. 1. More recently, she teamed up with heavyweight producer Raphael Gibbs (Nas, Busta Rhymes) on her 2022 EP Phoenix. Bria has been building brick by brick, proving she has the voice, vision, and drive to stay in the game.

Now she’s back with her boldest single yet: “Boy Toy.” Co-written with R&B songwriter Kyle Davidson, the record flips the script on love and control. Bria takes the reins, inviting listeners into a playful but powerful world where the dynamic is reversed, she calls the shots, and the energy is all about fun, sass, and confidence. Think the push-and-pull thrill of Mr. & Mrs. Smith with a modern R&B twist.

Sonically, “Boy Toy” is a time machine to the golden era of 2000s R&B, blending Brandy-esque vocals with a pulsing, old-school pop-R&B instrumental. The production is hard-hitting yet smooth, with a chorus that demands you dance without a care in the world. Bria’s delivery is equal parts sultry and commanding. Her voice doesn’t just sit on top of the track, it moves through it, pulling you along for the ride. The result is a groove that feels both nostalgic and fresh, proving Bria knows exactly how to balance homage with innovation.

“I hope people have fun with this song as I had so much fun writing and recording it,” Bria shares. “Especially the ladies, I hope they dedicate this song to their boo or potential boo, dance, party and let loose to this. As for the fellas, ya’ll can enjoy it too! As my lyrics say, ‘just listen,’ listen to what us ladies are desiring, and you’ll prosper. I can confidently say this song is my statement piece. ‘Boy Toy’ shows my growth and that I am here to stay.”

That confidence comes backed by receipts. Bria has been carving out her lane with consistency, opening for Styles P at Bullet Proof Studios in 2023 and earning a feature on Sway in the Morning with Sway Calloway and Tracy G in 2024. She’s building momentum both on and off the mic, and “Boy Toy” feels like the statement track that ties it all together.

At its core, the song isn’t just about flipping relationship dynamics, it’s about Bria cementing her artistry, her voice, and her place in today’s R&B landscape. It’s a record that makes you want to turn the volume up, move your body, and let Bria’s infectious energy take over.

With “Boy Toy,” Bria Cheri proves she’s not only growing—she’s glowing. And if this single is any sign, she’s just getting started.

“Boy Toy” is available now on all streaming platforms.
