Sighmon Brings His Florida Roots to Los Angeles on ‘REPTILE’

Sighmon has taken a rather different route into his latest chapter. After years of making music, building his craft through the DIY circuit and eventually relocating from Florida to Los Angeles, he has arrived at ‘REPTILE’, a project that brings his past and present together.

The album has been described by Sighmon as the most personal expression of himself he has put onto a record so far, with Florida playing a particularly important role in its identity. That feels significant considering how much has changed since his earliest days making music in a Georgia college dorm room back in 2017.

What started with experimenting with beats gradually became something much bigger. Sighmon began writing full songs, performing at open mics and local showcases, and eventually sharing a studio space in Florida with close friends. Those years of figuring things out without a particularly rigid roadmap seem to have followed him into ‘REPTILE’. The project moves across indie, R&B, alt-pop and hip-hop, reflecting an artist who has never appeared too concerned with keeping his work inside one particular box. Rather than presenting those influences as separate identities, ‘REPTILE’ brings them together under one project, with collaboration playing a significant role in its creation.

Charlie Hartwell and Jack Pavlina contributed to the production, while DXCKLIN handled the mastering. The album also features contributions from iamdeanooo, adding another voice to the wider creative picture.

Sighmon's move to Los Angeles could have marked a clean break from everything that came before. Instead, ‘REPTILE’ seems to look in the opposite direction. His Florida roots remain central to the project, giving the album a sense of personal history while allowing him plenty of room to continue experimenting. That balance is probably what makes this particular release worth paying attention to. Sighmon is not presenting himself as an artist who has finally arrived at one definitive sound. If anything, ‘REPTILE’ suggests that the freedom to move between different influences is an important part of who he is.

There is also something fitting about the timing. After beginning with beats in a college dorm, working through the local scene and eventually making the jump to Los Angeles, Sighmon now has a project that seems to pull all of those experiences into one place.

‘REPTILE’ feels like a snapshot of where he is right now, with plenty of room left for wherever he decides to go next.
