Some songs feel like songs. Others feel like scenes you step into. Secrets In Your Eyes, the latest release from Los Angeles–based producer and artist Yash Kapoor, is firmly the second kind. It doesn’t just play through your speakers, it pulls you into a dimly lit world where heartbeats echo, shadows move on their own, and emotions feel just a little too close to the surface.
From the very first pulse, the track opens like a thriller rolling its opening credits. A heartbeat kicks in, the air cracks open, and suddenly you’re floating somewhere between the stars and your own thoughts. There’s an unmistakable 80s-tinged pop mood here, glossy but eerie - layered with extraterrestrial textures that feel both nostalgic and forward-facing. It’s cinematic, tense, and impossible to look away from.
Yash’s background makes this level of detail make sense. A Berklee College of Music graduate in Music Production & Engineering, he’s spent years sharpening his sound behind the scenes, working in high-level creative environments tied to XO and assisting heavyweight producer DaHeala, while also collaborating within circles connected to artists like Belly and NAV. That precision shows. His productions are dense by design, often built from hundreds of layers, yet nothing feels excessive. Every sound earns its place.
Lyrically, Secrets In Your Eyes unfolds like a psychological chase set at midnight. Lines about racing through the cold and losing control blur the line between desire and danger. It’s the kind of song that captures that unnerving moment when you realize you can read someone’s secrets without them saying a word - or worse, when you recognize parts of yourself you don’t fully understand anymore. Obsession, manipulation, identity, surrender, it’s all there, wrapped in a hook that lingers long after the track ends.
The production mirrors that emotional spiral perfectly. Haunted synths hum beneath heavy, cinematic drums. Distorted textures stretch and bend, creating a sense of unease that feels intentional, not chaotic. There are clear nods to the dark grandeur of Michael Jackson’s Thriller era and the stripped-back atmosphere of The Weeknd’s more recent work, but Yash never disappears into his influences. His voice cuts through with a cadence that feels intimate and exposed, almost like he’s breaking the fourth wall and letting you in on something you weren’t supposed to hear.
Beyond this single, Secrets In Your Eyes feels like a statement of intent. It marks a defining moment in Yash Kapoor’s evolution from behind-the-scenes architect to fully realized solo artist. With a debut album slated for release next year and major collaborative EPs already in motion with independent artists across Los Angeles, he’s clearly building a larger universe, one record, one scene at a time.
This isn’t background music. It’s the kind of track you listen to alone, late at night, when the city is quiet and your thoughts are loud. And when it ends, you’re left with that strange feeling that something shifted, like you just watched the opening scene of a film you can’t wait to see unfold.
