Bermuda’s music scene has always been a melting pot of cultures and sounds, but with A Villain Error, Derek G. and Buzby have raised the bar for what it means to create something truly boundary-pushing. Equal parts storytelling, sonic experimentation, and cultural showcase, the album dives into the complexities of human nature while celebrating the diversity of music itself.

The Roots of the Creators

For Derek G., music runs in the blood. Son of legendary guitarist Derek E. Simmons, he’s been immersed in the craft since the age of six—whether behind a bass, producing in the studio, or directing live performances. With more than 20 years in the industry, Derek G. is not just a musician but an institution on the island. He’s engineered for global stars like Beyoncé, UB40, Natasha Bedingfield, Jah Cure, Collie Buddz, Mary Mary, and countless others, all while co-founding Bermuda’s award-winning music giant D.I.A. His #OutdoorVibesWDerekG project has become a local staple, showcasing raw and uncut performances from Bermuda’s finest talents.

Buzby, on the other hand, calls himself a “neighborhood vibe dealer”—and the title fits. With over a decade in the scene, he’s built a reputation for introspective lyricism and soulful soundscapes. His debut EP What You Failed to Observe and various singles have consistently landed in Bermuda’s Top 100, while his songs have clocked over 100,000 SoundCloud plays worldwide. Together, Derek G. and Buzby are a powerhouse of experience and fresh energy.

The Concept: Life’s Dualities

At its heart, A Villain Error is an exploration of human intentions—how easily they can be misunderstood, and how quickly the line between “hero” and “villain” can blur. Some tracks are based on real-life events; others are imagined, but both worlds weave together seamlessly. The album’s message is clear: life is unpredictable, and the same choice can be seen as noble by some and destructive by others.

Produced entirely by Derek G., a prominent figure in Bermuda's music scene, this project represents a groundbreaking leap in creative expression and genre exploration. A Villain Error is not just an album—it’s an immersive journey through the human experience, filled with raw emotion, introspection, and unforgettable moments. It’s a powerful statement about the duality of life and the stories that make us who we are.

The Sound: Genre-Bending Storytelling

Musically, this project is a buffet of influences: Rap, Dancehall, Afrobeat, RnB, Acoustic, UK-Step, Trap, Dubstep, Light Punk, and Folk. It’s rare to find an album that embraces such diversity without losing focus, but Derek G. and Buzby pull it off.

  • Heavy boombap rhythms ground you in hip-hop grit.

  • Afrobeat grooves and Dancehall bounce bring the sunshine.

  • Choir voices elevate tracks with emotional depth.

  • Acoustic and folk touches soften the edges, creating room for reflection.

Each of the 12 tracks flows into the next, yet every one stands tall on its own, carrying a strong message wrapped in powerful production. There are moments to dance, moments to reminisce, and moments to simply sit back and think.

The Features: Bermuda’s Talent on Full Display

Another highlight of A Villain Error is its collaborative spirit. The album boasts five extraordinary features, bringing together some of Bermuda’s brightest names:

  • Mr. Fotogenik – Content creator, photographer, and artist.

  • Matthew Bento – Producer, artist, songwriter, and engineer (who also handled additional vocal production, mixing, and mastering on the album).

  • CHINYERE – Singer with an undeniable soulful touch.

  • Hippy X – Rapper bringing raw, high-energy bars.

  • GHS – Rapper who adds grit and edge to his track.

The local musicianship runs even deeper. Derek Simmons Sr. and Leroy Francis deliver standout moments on Track 4 (Do You Know?), while Keiran Bradshaw’s guitar work shines on Track 2 (Let Go). It’s a community effort that elevates the record from great to unforgettable.

Why A Villain Error Works

What makes this project so special isn’t just the variety of genres or the technical polish—it’s the emotional weight behind it. This isn’t background music; it’s the kind of record that rewards attention. It’s about choices, consequences, misunderstandings, and redemption. It’s about life in all its messiness.

With booming hooks, vulnerable verses, and instrumentation that moves seamlessly between club-ready and soul-soothing, the album has something for everyone. As the songs unfold, you’re not just listening—you’re confronting your own reflections.

With A Villain Error, Derek G. and Buzby have created more than an album. They’ve created an experience, one that captures Bermuda’s unique talent pool, pushes genre boundaries, and digs into what it means to be human.

Multi-genre projects can sometimes feel scattered, but here, everything fits like a puzzle. Whether you’re a fan of rap, soul, or rock, you’ll find yourself pulled into the stories. With 12 dynamic records, powerful features, and a unifying theme of life’s dualities, A Villain Error stands as one of Bermuda’s most ambitious and engaging releases to date.

This isn’t just music, it’s a reminder that sometimes the hero and the villain are the same person, depending on whose story you’re listening to.
