Meet Dr. Smith & the Night Shift, the electrifying new alt-rock project led by Allison Scagliotti. You might know her as the creative force behind La Femme Pendu (which racked up over a million verified streams), but this new chapter shows her turning the amps up and stepping into a whole new groove. Backed by a rotating cast of rock veterans, the band blends Southern gothic moods with West Coast cool, echoing the grit of PJ Harvey and the bite of The Breeders while still sounding like nobody but themselves.
The lineup is stacked: produced by Phil Leavitt (dada/7Horse), who also crushes it on drums, the band features Joie Calio on bass, Darice Bailey on keys, and Nick Maybury shredding lead guitar. Together, they bring a cinematic, muscular energy that elevates Scagliotti’s sharp songwriting and distinctive vocals.
Their debut EP, House Call, may only be three songs deep, but each track brings its own flavor:
“House Call” – The title track bursts open with driving guitars and a vocal performance that feels urgent yet inviting. It’s the kind of song that fills the room and pulls you straight in.
“Over It” – Attitude-forward and fiery, this track channels frustration into pure catharsis. Think snarling riffs and lyrics that sound like freedom in motion.
“Year of the House” – A textured closer that leans into Americana tones without ever losing its rock backbone. It’s both reflective and expansive, a perfect note to end on.
Across the EP, Scagliotti’s vocals hit a sweet spot, both searching and powerful, while the band’s musicianship keeps everything tight, layered, and ready for repeat listens.
House Call is equal parts bite and balm, alt-rock that grips you with its energy while leaving space for reflection. If this is just the opening statement, Dr. Smith & the Night Shift are set to be one of the most exciting new voices in the scene.
