Kayla Silverman’s “Tell Me How” Is the Disco-Glittered Fantasy We’ve All Lived — and Now It’s a Song

Let’s admit something: we’ve all romanticized a stranger. A blink-too-long glance on the subway. That cute neighbor you always meant to talk to. A stranger in a TSA line who made you forget your flight delay rage. Most of us let those moments float off into the ether. Kayla Silverman? She grabbed that fleeting feeling and turned it into a cheeky, disco-drenched anthem: “Tell Me How,” which officially dropped on May 23rd.
The NYC-based glam-pop sorceress — known for her powerhouse vocals, baroque-meets-modern aesthetic, and a touch of theatrical absurdity — delivers a track that feels like love at first sight, spun through a mirrorball. It’s both dreamy and unhinged in the best way: a glittery confessional about spiraling into fantasy before you even know someone’s last name.
Inspired by the moment she met her now-boyfriend in an elevator, Kayla channels that split-second “it’s game over” vibe into a track that’s part disco flirtation, part romantic fever dream. “Tell Me How” imagines someone stuck in that fantasy — sitting on a train, desperately running through pickup lines in their head and coming up completely blank. The lyrics are desperate, sexy, ridiculous, and somehow deeply relatable. Because let’s face it, we’ve all written a whole love story in our heads before saying one word out loud.
Musically, the track is peak Kayla. A trained opera singer with a deep love for glam rock legends like Queen and Kate Bush, she’s made a name for herself by marrying drama and playfulness into something she calls “glam pop.” Her voice is bold and theatrical, but never overwrought — always serving up emotion on a silver (or glitter-coated) platter.
And then there’s the music video. If you haven’t seen it yet, stop reading and go watch. Directed by Eli Eisenstein, it’s a hilarious, retro-absurdist masterpiece that leans way into the silliness of our own fantasies. Kayla and co-star Noah Eisenstein pose in an aggressively awkward 80s JC Penney-style photo shoot — all soft-focus, bad backdrops, and painfully unflattering poses. It’s the opposite of sexy, which is exactly the point.
“I wanted to show how silly and dramatic we get when we’re lost in our fantasies,” Kayla says. “So I went full cringe. Because honestly, it doesn’t matter how sexy you look — it matters how sexy you feel.”
It’s that kind of tongue-in-cheek vulnerability that makes Kayla’s work stand out. Beneath the velvet corsets and disco lights, she’s offering something refreshingly honest: feelings we’ve all had but rarely say out loud. She dares to romanticize the irrational, while still poking fun at herself the entire time.
“Tell Me How” follows the release of her EP Sophisticated Lady last fall, and is the first of a steady stream of singles dropping every other month. With a growing fanbase, regular NYC gigs, and several East Coast tours under her belt, Kayla is proving that her brand of high-drama pop is anything but a passing phase.
So whether you're fantasizing about a stranger or just need a soundtrack to your own over-the-top inner monologue, Tell Me How is ready to spiral with you.
And if you need a little nudge to finally shoot your shot? As Kayla puts it: “Maybe I’m feeding into the delusion — but if you’re hearing this song, take it as your sign to ask that person out. You know exactly who I’m talking about.”
Stream Tell Me How now wherever you get your music. Just don’t blame Kayla if you suddenly find yourself staring wistfully out of train windows again.
