Miami’s music scene has always been a melting pot of culture, rhythm, and stories, and singer-songwriter PJ Aviles is one of the voices keeping that spirit alive. A true product of a musical household, PJ grew up with melodies all around him—his father still tours the world as a saxophone player, and it wasn’t long before PJ followed suit. From choir practice as a kid to guitar and songwriting in high school, music has been stitched into his DNA.
Over the past decade, PJ has carved out a path as an independent artist, releasing EPs, a full-length album in 2023, and performing everywhere from Florida blues festivals to cozy dive bars. But while his journey has stayed mostly in the local circuit, his latest release feels like something bigger. Lucky! might just be the track that carries PJ’s name beyond Florida’s borders.
At its core, Lucky! is a love song—but not in the cliché sense. PJ keeps the production stripped-down, letting his storytelling and vocals take center stage. The result is intimate, raw, and quietly powerful. His voice carries an emotional honesty that feels both fragile and strong, weaving through lyrics that highlight love in its many forms.
“I hope listeners are able to reminisce on their own love story—whatever that may look like from their unique vantage point—and feel a sense of hope,” PJ shares. “This song isn’t just considering romantic, bubbly love but also friendships, community, and any iteration of love as well. I truly believe that as humans, we’re lucky to get to experience that.”
The song’s vulnerability is reflected not only in the lyrics but in the way PJ built the track. He wrote, produced, and performed every instrument himself—a rare feat in today’s collaborative-heavy music world. The song was mixed by his close collaborator Andrew Novoa and mastered by German Landaeta, rounding out a production that feels both polished and deeply personal.
And then there’s the music video—an equally important piece of Lucky! PJ envisioned the story from the moment he wrote the song: young lovers growing old, all tied together by an old 1980s Volvo (yes, the same one that ultimately goes up in flames on screen). Shot and edited by Andy Ryan Flores, the visuals play like a short film, mirroring the sincerity of the music and giving fans a chance to fall for the song on another level.
There’s something timeless about Lucky! It doesn’t try to be bigger than it is, yet it still feels cinematic. The strings glide softly in the background, giving room for PJ’s vocal agility to shine. His delivery swings between tender whispers and soaring emotion, the kind of performance that makes you close your eyes and get swept away. The sincerity in his voice is undeniable—each note lands like a confession, a reminder of how vulnerable love makes us, and how beautiful that vulnerability can be.
With more singles planned after this release, Lucky! feels like the start of something new for PJ Aviles. It’s an intimate chapter in his story, but one that listeners everywhere can see themselves in. And if this track is any indication, PJ isn’t just writing music—he’s capturing life as it unfolds, one heartfelt song at a time.
